Staff members are recruited
from schools and colleges throughout the United States as well as from a
variety of foreign countries. Our staff range in age from 19 to 65, and offer
their energy, skills, care and devotion to our campers. Our counselor to
camper ratio is one to three.
A majority of our staff are former Robin Hood campers who understand
and embrace the Robin Hood culture of a warm and nurturing environment.
Our new staff are subject to a thorough screening process including a
social security verification, county criminal check and sexual offender
registry.
Fifty percent of our staff specialize in an activity, and 50
percent are general
counselors. Our general staff focus on the happiness and involvement of
the campers, while specialty staff focus on instruction.
We build a strong leadership team through our pre-camp leadership
training session for our group heads. This three-day program focuses on
managing staff and team building. Immediately following leadership
training, all counselors are involved in a rigorous six-day orientation
and training. The intricacies of group behavior and positive reinforcement
techniques are discussed and practiced, emphasizing one of the cardinal
principles of the Robin Hood philosophy: A child's behavior is molded by
building on their strengths and rewarding the smallest successes. The
emphasis is on encouragement, accomplishment and recognition.
Staff meetings are held regularly, and Jamie
and David Cole meet with
campers from different bunks for open discussions without
counselors.
