{"id":133,"date":"2014-06-27T22:53:51","date_gmt":"2014-06-28T02:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.camprobinhood.com\/blog\/?p=133"},"modified":"2014-06-27T22:53:51","modified_gmt":"2014-06-28T02:53:51","slug":"welcome-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.camprobinhood.com\/blog\/welcome-home","title":{"rendered":"Welcome Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.camprobinhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10360773_10152506764044836_808862591045722428_n-e1403923611986.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-134  aligncenter\" title=\"Welcome Home!\" alt=\"Welcome Home! \" src=\"https:\/\/www.camprobinhood.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/10360773_10152506764044836_808862591045722428_n-e1403922843115-279x300.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As I drove into The Realm today, the sun was cutting just perfectly through the trees.\u00a0 I quieted my radio so I could sing the Robin Hood alma mater, and could hear the sound of children playing as I made my way down the dirt road.\u00a0 I was home.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after I arrived, buses began to appear at the gas pumps.\u00a0 Groups holding signs to denote their spot sprinkled the air, and campers navigated their way through the sea of green and white Robin Hood shirts to greet their summer families.<\/p>\n<p>In no time, groups made their way down to the waterfront for a general swim, others were on the homerun diamond trying to \u201chit the trees\u201d (a RH rite of passage), and a pack of girls \u2013 ranging in age from Scribes to Tumblers \u2013 were playing pony on the quad.<\/p>\n<p>Dick formally welcomed everyone at dinner with two cherished traditions:\u00a0 the oldest and youngest campers of both the girls and boys camps tore down sheets of paper illustrating the number of hours it has been since we were all last together; and, he toasted \u201cto our returning campers, welcome home!\u00a0 To our new campers, welcome to the greatest place on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After spending 11 summers at Robin Hood as one of the directors, I am now considered a Robin Hood veteran.\u00a0 When I dated DC in the 90\u2019s and came to camp as a visitor for Family Camp (formerly called \u201c9th Week\u201d), who would have ever thought that I would sit here now as an authentic Robin Hooder?\u00a0 This past January I retired as a director, but as any alum will attest, you may come for a summer, but undeniably stay for a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p>Now I have the privilege of spending a few weekends of the summer in this magical place.\u00a0 Today, I hugged the returning children (many of whom are now taller than me), and I welcomed our new campers to Robin Hood.\u00a0 Tomorrow I play, swim and probably lead an afternoon abs class \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>New parents \u2013 I imagine you may be missing your children and wondering if they are okay?\u00a0 Did you do the right thing by sending them to camp?\u00a0 It was a significant choice you made in sending your child to Robin Hood.\u00a0 Let me assure you, you didn\u2019t just choose any camp; you chose a place that sees children return year after year.\u00a0 Our children come from as close as Maine and as far as Switzerland.\u00a0 They grow up with each other; they are one another\u2019s life forces throughout the year.\u00a0 Yes, the air smells like pine, the sunsets take away your breath, but the friendships formed are like none other.\u00a0 And it is those relationships that are the secret sauce of this place we call \u201cThe Realm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With that said, sleep well as we wish you all \u2026<\/p>\n<p>Sweet dreams from The Realm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As I drove into The Realm today, the sun was cutting just perfectly through the trees.\u00a0 I quieted my radio so I could sing the Robin Hood alma mater, and could hear the sound of children playing as I made my way down the dirt road.\u00a0 I was home.
