Traditions \u2026.<\/p>\n
We are all about history and traditions here at the Realm\u2026 For 89 summers children\u00a0have escaped the cities and the pressure of the school year to a place called\u00a0Freedom.<\/p>\n
Today was filled with old traditions and new challenges for all our campers. A few\u00a0HIGHLIGHTS-<\/p>\n
This morning I challenged the Tumblers and TPJ\u2019s to race up Green Mountain. We\u00a0have opened the summer with this trip since the 70\u2019s. Our littlest campers \u2013 some\u00a050 strong – enjoyed the attention and the day spent with their personal sherpas, our\u00a0oldest campers the Saxons and Scribes. I promised the winners ice cream and I can\u00a0report that the girls beat the boys by 2 minutes! The girls however had 1\/10 of a\u00a0mile less to hike as they went up a different trail. We called it a tie and let both\u00a0groups enjoy the homemade ice cream together. I can also report that the kids were\u00a0so happy and proud of what they accomplished.<\/p>\n
We also finished our 16 laps today at the waterfront \u2013 that swim test has been\u00a0around for over 50 years. Today we were visited by an alumnus who was last at\u00a0camp 51 years ago. His wife was so happy to finally put a face on the place after 40\u00a0years of stories. He told me in spite of all the new buildings the place feels the same.\u00a0He said we have the trees, the pine needles and the greatest waterfront in the world.\u00a0He remembered swimming his 16 laps years ago.<\/p>\n
As we have done for many years the boys and girls had the first campfires of the\u00a0season tonight. Boys camp has the Saxons and TPJ\u2019s building the fire and\u00a0introducing each other to the entire camp after spending the day hiking. Girls camp\u00a0has a great tradition also \u2013 the scribes visit every bunk while linking arms. The girls\u00a0join the parade while singing “If I had a Hammer” finishing the long walk at\u00a0waterfront. It was a amazing sight as the new campers already 3 days into their first\u00a0summer smiled and took in the special moment.<\/p>\n
We are so lucky to spend our summers together at the Realm as tens of thousands of\u00a0others have done before us. DC and I feel like Peter Pan every day. We have been\u00a0blessed with the privilege of being the sherpas for all your kids.\u00a0Thank you so much for sharing them with us.<\/p>\n
