Happy Campers All Over The Realm

A gorgeous day in The Realm today, from start to finish. Our campers who are out on excursion had an amazing time!

Arrows went to SkyZone in Massachusetts today for dodgeball and bounced around before heading to Laser Tag later in the afternoon. They ended their day with a Chinese dinner in Portsmouth before heading back to the campsite for a campfire!  Lancers went to Water Country today to splash around before heading to a Nashua Silver Knights baseball game. They are having so much fun together. Tomorrow will be an amazing day for both groups.

Our Friars started their day at the Basketball Hall of Fame before heading to Six Flags New England for the day. After many hours in the sun, the boys headed to see Ant-Man and cool off before heading back to the campsite for a late dinner and campfire. Bards also enjoyed an afternoon at Six Flags today before heading to see Minions in 3-D. These girls were so excited to see this movie… we’re so glad they’re happy!

We welcomed home our Shires and Foresters after their four-day excursion to Boston. They ended their trip with a day at Water Country and it was definitely a perfect day to be at a water park. We missed them so much and are so happy that they had a memorable time.

Today couldn’t have been more perfect both in and out of camp! With temperatures reaching close to 90 degrees and the sun shining all day, it’s no surprise there was a ton of water activities going on at Robin Hood. But what I love most is that Robin Hood campers work hard and play hard! We work hard to balance our schedules with just the right amount of active play periods, whether it be team sports or individual sports like tennis or soccer, and waterfront activities like sailing, boating waterski or swimming. So we love how excited campers are when they love their schedules each day. After a day of activities, we spent last period with POWER HOUR and followed it up with an all-camp general swim and cookout on the lake! Now that’s what I call perfection.

Until tomorrow… Sweet Dreams from The Realm

Daily Excursions

Four more groups headed out on excursions this morning – here’s a peek at what they’ve been up to:

The Arrow group headed out to enjoy a day at Canobie Lake Amusement Park.  They set up camp at their campground before cooking a delicious meal and heading out for a round of mini golf with the Lancers.  Speaking of the Lancer group, they left this morning and went to OSG Paintball where they spent half a day on their range.  They had so much fun before heading to their campsite for a meal fit for kings (and made by themselves!)

Bards headed out early this morning and stopped for a Dunkin Donuts breakfast before making their way to Hampton Beach.  It was such a gorgeous day to lounge for a bit and walk on the boardwalk.  Afterwards, they headed to the Basketball Hall of Fame before heading to their campsite, setting up their tents and chowing down on steaks, smore’s and good ol’ fashion apple pie!

The Friars headed out today and spent the day enjoying Portsmouth, NH. They shopped and dined downtown before heading off to their campground in Massachusetts. Tomorrow is a BIG day for the Friars. They will start off at the Basketball Hall of Fame and then join the Bards at a secret location (can you stand the suspense??). Tonight they all worked together to set up camp and cook dinner and enjoy a campfire.

Here’s an update on the Shires and Foresters in Boston…
Shires spent their morning at the JFK Library. The best part of this is that the kids come out of that library really getting a sense of American History and appreciating their time in the museum.  Then they headed to Newbury Street for some SHOPPING! What can we say? 15 year old girls like their time to window shop and on a beautiful day like today, they were able to walk the beautiful streets of Boston together. They are such a tight group (8 Shires strong at this point in the summer) that they are so happy to be together doing anything.

Foresters woke up early after a late night at the Sox game to head to Faneuil Hall and participate in The Boston Mad Dash Scavenger Hunt!  This activity lasted about 2 ½ hours and sent them all around Boston with different challenges, including a 100 photo challenge, video challenges,  a trivia hunt and more!  They finished with lunch in the park before heading to Cambridge and enjoying Harvard Square.

Tonight both groups took in some shows. Shires enjoyed Shear Madness (an improve show!) and Foresters went to see Blue Man Group! Tomorrow is the last day of their trip and we’ve got a great day planned. More on that tomorrow.

As for our campers back in The Realm, they are having the best time ever! They love sitting at the tables of the senior groups who are away on excursions and leading the camp in cheers throughout every meal.  5th period we had another Power Hour and the kids loved it!  Power Hour is a period where the entire junior camp lines up at the bottom of the Quad while counselors and specialists hold up their activity signs at the top of the Quad.  When the siren blows, all campers run to their activity preference for that one period!  If it fills up, they head to another option that they love.  One period, for one day, and they just love the excitement of running to their first choice!  After Power Hour, the camp headed down to the waterfront for General Swim.  Dinner was pasta and meatballs with Caesar Salad and garlic bread!  After dinner we had an all-camp counselor hunt led by Woody and the GLs.  The entire camp (or who’s still here) was split into two teams.  It was so much fun and the kids and counselors were all running laughing and having a blast. Truly a memorable evening here in The Realm!

All is quiet now and our groups on excursions have checked in. Some are tucked away in their tents, others are enjoying a late night campfire, but all are spending quality time with one another.  Excursion week bonds all groups in so many different ways. Whether it’s the groups at camp who are running the spirit and show or the groups out experiencing new and exciting adventures together, they are creating memories for life.

Until tomorrow… Sweet Dreams from The Realm.

Trips, Trips and More Trips!

A case of the Monday’s isn’t so bad when you’re living life in The Realm! As we begin the second half of camp, our groups are gearing up for excursions. This is such an exciting time for our campers! We won’t divulge too much information because campers don’t know when or where they’re going. What we can tell you is that so far, our Foresters and Shires have headed out to Boston for a 4 day excursion and have already seen and done so much! Yesterday they enjoyed Faneuil Hall, a Duck Tour (quack quack!) and dinner at Fire + Ice. Since we became friends with people at the Red Sox Foundation and hosted them during this year’s Robin Hood Gives Back, we were lucky enough to send our Foresters to Fenway Park for a game and a chance to run the bases last night! Our Shires enjoyed a day at the New England Aquarium, dodgeball at SkyZone and an evening at Blue Man Group. Both groups, after spending years of excursions at campsites, are spending their time in hotels in Boston proper. More on their excursion in the days ahead.

Today, we’ll be sending four more groups out on trips. Lancers, Arrows, Bards and Friars will make their way out in the morning and explore different areas of New Hampshire and Massachusetts with lots of adventure along the way!

Junior camp has run of The Realm while our senior campers are away. All of their favorite activities are available to them! Waterski, boating, tennis, riflery, soccer, art, woodshop… you name it, they can do it! We’ll even be offering more choice to our campers with the addition of POWER HOUR in the afternoons.

Time to run… the Bards are the first ones to head out!

Visiting Day 2015

It truly was a BIG day in The Realm today! Families arrived around 9am to spend the day with their campers. The best part was how involved everyone got with land sports! Gaga, Ultimate Frisbee, Spikeball, Softball, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball… Parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, all joined in on the fun for a day of activities!

The weather was perfect… not too hot and not too cold! Campers showed off their swimming, waterskiing and sailing skills on our beautiful Lake Ossipee. Sounds of laughter filled Camp Robin Hood as families were reunited today. Spending time with the people you’ve missed for the past four weeks is so magical and the feeling of family is so strong that those campers who didn’t have visitors never felt alone.

Lunch on visiting day is quite the scene… Nicky (who returns for a PVD special appearance,) Yensi and his crew, run the most incredible dining experience. Beautiful bagged lunches with delicious sandwiches, pickles (the real deal!), homemade red skinned potato salad and fruit allow for a quick and easy pickup before enjoying a relaxed lunch on our quad or beachfront! And the cookies! Oh the cookies… Oatmeal raisin, chocolate chip, double chocolate, M&M’s… cookies as big as your head! Usually dessert is reserved for Sundae Sundays, but today was an exception. (Hey – it was Sunday in Australia today!)

The afternoon continued and before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye. Some of our campers will be heading home tomorrow and new campers will be arriving. The first half of the summer has gone by so quickly, it’s amazing to see the bonds that have formed among campers, both new and old.

We are so thankful that parents and families were able to join us today and see how happy their campers are! Robin Hood is a special place. As one mom put it “a secret gem.” How right you are… and we’re so thankful that you share your precious jewels with us.

Another Sunny Day in The Realm!

Today started off with our Saxons and Scribes heading off to Katahdin, a four-day mountain trip! They will spend the next few days camping out, cooking for one another, hiking and making memories that will last a lifetime! More on their trip when they return home…

Our 10U Girl’s Soccer team headed to Forest Acres and, like our 10U Boy’s team, dominated the tournament! We placed 2nd overall and the girls came back beaming with pride.

Junior campers from every boy’s group enjoyed traveling to Camp Winaukee for their annual Swim Meet. Medleys, relays, individual stroke competitions… our boys placed 5th overall out of 12 teams!

The Arrow’s hosted a play-date for Birchmont for 13U Softball and Soccer. They had a lot of fun and it was great prep for Green & White!

Our intensives are going strong with Bootcamp with Erzy, Mountain Biking, Jewelry Making, land and water sports. Dances are being practiced for our Parent’s Visiting Day Talent Show and tonight’s sunset was as beautiful as any other!

A BIG thanks to Bruce Fleming, acclaimed high school tennis coach, for hosting clinics today on our tennis courts! The campers loved working with you and your expertise and enthusiasm was felt all day! Of course there were groups at riflery, archery, gaga, soccer, games on the quad, swim lessons in the lake, waterskiing, sailing, too.

It’s crazy to think that tomorrow we will have been here for two weeks! Where is the time going? Thankfully, we can always refer to what Dick says… “Make Every Second Count.”
