Parents Visiting Day Thoughts

Here are a few thoughts to prepare you for this Saturday’s visiting day. As a former camper, staff member, and visiting parent, I have some quick points to share which will hopefully make your visit easier …..
Parents Visiting Day – Saturday, July 22nd

  • Check-in tables open on Saturday between 9:00am and 9:30am. Please do not arrive any earlier. Activities will begin at 10am. Our attendants will help you with parking and direct you to the check-in station where you will see your schedule and get your name tags. Families need to depart by 3:00pm.
  • Please do not be late, as it will make your children very anxious. Once here, make a point to meet their counselors and their new/existing friends here at camp. For those of you with campers staying for the rest of the summer, remind them how proud you are of them, how excited you are for the second half, and how you’ll see them before they know it.
  • Please know that it is much harder for the kids when you leave them now than when you left them on Opening Day. We sometimes see homesickness at the half-way point for campers who were not homesick at the beginning of the summer.
  • Please make your exit quick, and try at all costs to leave your children at their bunk and near your counselors. I will be stationed in the office and in the theater, so please come say goodbye and leave your kids at least in that area as you walk to the parking lot.
  • Lunch will be provided for everyone to enjoy. Feel free to bring blankets to eat picnic-style, otherwise we will have tables and chairs set up under the tent and around camp.
  • No dogs, just people. We have some campers who are afraid of dogs and also allergic.
  • Wear clothing that will allow you to be active and enjoy the activities!
  • Bring rain gear (just in case) and sunscreen (hope you will need it)!
  • No camper is to leave the premises other than Foresters, Shires, Saxons and Scribes. These senior campers are allowed to leave camp Saturday at 2:30pm with their parents, returning by 8:30pm. All campers must be checked out upon departure and checked back in upon their return.
  • Phones will stay locked up throughout Parents Visiting Weekend.
  • NO FOOD IS PERMITTED TO BE BROUGHT INTO CAMP. We have children at Robin Hood with life-threatening food allergies (nuts, peanuts, milk, wheat etc.). It is imperative that we control what food is on camp.
  • Our first session ends on Sunday, July 23th. We will have all first session campers packed before Sunday’s departure.
Safe travels and see you on Saturday!
